What he actually said
Yes — Ze’ev Jabotinsky said outright that what colonization required to succeed was force, not voluntary agreement with the local population. In his 1925 essay The Iron Wall, he declared there was “no such precedent” of any colonization carried out with the natives’ voluntary consent, and that a Jewish national home in Palestine could be built only behind “an iron wall” of armed force the Arabs could not break through — agreement would come only after their resistance was broken (Jewish Virtual Library1; israeled.org2). His own quote makes the only way to succeed explicit: force first, consent later. What he did not say was that Arabs would ever agree voluntarily.
Arab resistance, in his own words
His views were unambiguous: every native people, “civilized or uncivilized,” regards its land as its national home and “will refuse to admit not only new masters but even new partners.” He compared Arabs defending Palestine to the Aztecs defending Mexico and the Sioux defending their prairies (Jewish Virtual Library1).
Why this matters
A common pro-Israel framing soft-pedals the essay as “peace through strength” realism (israeled.org2); his own words concede Zionism was, in his telling, a colonial project imposed on a population with every natural right to resist (Lefkov Lens3). Since he inspired the Likud line through Begin, Shamir and Netanyahu (israeled.org2), his force-based doctrine — and his later advocacy of transferring Arabs out of Palestine (Cambridge Core4) — remains the operating logic of the current Israeli government. An honest conservative must therefore treat Palestinian resistance not as pathology but as exactly what Jabotinsky said any people would do (Brenner, marxists.org5).
