# How do Islamist groups influence EU policy toward Israel?

Islamist groups influence EU policy toward Israel only marginally — far less than the "stealth lobby" narrative promoted by defenders of the Israeli government suggests — because EU foreign policy on Israel is driven overwhelmingly by evidence-based assessments from European governments themselves, not by Muslim Brotherhood lobbying or pressure campaigns. The prevailing framing, articulated for example in a [Jerusalem Post op-ed](https://www.jpost.com/opinion/article-886847) claiming the Muslim Brotherhood exercises a "stealth threat" through "entryism," EU funding, and "Red-Green alliances," holds that Islamist networks are quietly capturing Brussels and turning European Union policy against Israel. The evidence points the other way: when nine European governments — including Germany, France, and the Netherlands — [jointly rebuked](https://www.israelhayom.com/2022/07/13/9-european-countries-rebuke-israels-label-of-palestinian-ngos-as-terror-groups/) Israel's designation of six Palestinian civil-society groups as terrorist organizations, they did so because Israel provided "no substantial evidence," not because anyone lobbied them; the same article notes that even the Dutch, after halting funding to one group, found no organizational ties to terrorism. In other words, when EU institutions take positions critical of the Israeli government — such as continuing to fund respected human-rights groups like Al-Haq and Defense for Children International-Palestine — it is Israeli governments failing to substantiate their allegations, not Islamist pressure, that moves European policy. Even the European Parliament's own [2026 resolution on Islamist entryism](https://oeil.europarl.europa.eu/oeil/en/document-summary?id=1919148), adopted 381–167, explicitly distinguishes political Islamism from Islam as a religion and, per its [adopted text](https://data.europarl.europa.eu/distribution/doc/TA-10-2026-0342_en.pdf), is aimed at investigating influence networks where evidence warrants — a sober, evidence-first posture, not proof that such networks already control EU Israel policy. It is true that occasional missteps occur, such as the European Parliament hosting [PFLP-linked speakers](https://www.algemeiner.com/2019/07/19/the-most-recent-pflp-hijacking-european-parliament/), as Algemeiner rightly flagged — and no friend of Israel should be complacent about genuine extremism. But the propagandistic move is to inflate isolated incidents and unproven designations into a story in which every EU criticism of Israel is recast as Islamist manipulation of anti-Israel advocacy in Brussels, thereby delegitimizing European governments' own sovereign, evidence-driven judgments — and, crucially, delegitimizing Palestinians' right to advocate for their own freedom, since the practical effect of the "entryism" narrative is to smear lawful Palestinian advocacy and human-rights work as terrorism. Conservatives, of all people, should be skeptical of any framing that asks European institutions to outsource their policy judgments to the talking points of a foreign government rather than the evidence before them.
